Serving in children’s ministries is very rewarding. We have the privilege of introducing children to God and helping them grow spiritually. We have a chance to impact children for the rest of their lives! Isn’t that exciting? If you’d like to learn more about joining the Solid Rock Children’s Ministries team contact Marilyn Moore. Here are some common questions and answers about serving in children’s ministries:

  1. How often do I have to serve?

Classroom teachers are asked to make a regular commitment. This assures optimal learning and is in the best interest of the children. Regular interaction with children builds relationships and increases our effectiveness as teachers.

Classroom assistants and extra nursery volunteers typically serve on a monthly rotational commitment.

  2. What are the requirements for serving?

We ask that volunteers directly serving with children enjoy children, have a desire to see them connect with God, and be willing to go through a basic screening process.

  3. Are there any age requirements?

To assist in the baby nursery you must be in high school and to assist with preschoolers you must be in at least sixth grade.

  4. Are there opportunities to serve as a substitute?

Yes, people interested in subbing let us know which area, age group, and time preference they have. Their name is then placed on the appropriate “Substitute List”. If someone calls you for an open time slot you either accept or decline service based upon your availability.

  5. What if I don’t enjoy direct contact with children? Is there something I can do?

Yes, there are other roles for you! Some include helping with sign-in or registration, helping maintain supply closets, assisting with data entry, preparing crafts, take photos, shopping, and assisting with food for events, just to name a few opportunities. Just ask and we’ll find a match for you.

  6. Are there training opportunities?

Typically there are 2-3 training opportunities each year to equip volunteers for their area of service. In addition we match beginning teachers with experienced mentors to assist them as they begin serving.
