Missional Ministries
There’s a difference between being “missional” and merely “mission-minded.” “Mission minded” churches give money to missions, send missionaries to serve and receive reports from missionaries who are serving in various places. There’s nothing wrong with being a mission-minded church. But Hillside desires something more! We not only want to send, we want to go. We not only want to “give money”, we want to get our hands dirty and our feet tired. We want to get involved. Below are several recent ways in which we’re being “missional” in reaching our community:
- Christianity Explored: CE is a course designed for seekers exploring the Christian faith and for new Christians who want a deeper understand of a relationship with Jesus. It’s open to anyone wondering, “What’s all of this business about the Christian life really mean for me?” In the process of hanging out and building relationships with seekers, we’re touching the lives of potential Christ-followers. Watch our news and events for the next offering.
- Clothing Share: Our Spring & Fall “clothing share” event provides free clothing for families and individuals. It’s our way of remembering the words of Jesus, “when you saw me without clothes, you clothed me.” We’re expressing God’s love in a tangible form. Watch our news and events for the next offering.
- Fluid Top Off Ministry: Many individuals don’t even realize that they’re driving dangerous cars. We provide automobile “fluid top offs” for free periodically throughout the year. Checking things out while “topping off” is a small but important way to say, “we care!” Watch our news and events to find the next event.
- IHN: Given the economic downturn, the number of homeless is increasing. The interfaith hospitality network provides free housing at Hillside two weeks each year. In addition, several Hillside friends are actively involved in helping IHN remodel a facility in Xenia, OH that will be used to provide a permanent residence.
- MVWS: The Miami Valley Women’s Shelter provides care for ladies facing the crisis of pregnancy. Whether it through counseling, providing emotional and spiritual support or sorting and distributing clothing, Hillside is filled with individuals who see MVWS as a great missional opportunity.
- LEC: Years ago, Hillside was located in downtown Dayton. And even though we’re now located in Beavercreek, we maintain this historical connection through the Life Enrichment Center, providing breakfast to Dayton’s homeless on Tuesdays and lunch the first Saturday each month.
But the above list if far from exhaustive. From helping out with our newly created partnership with the YMCA to assisting in an elementary school near our church, Hillsiders are determined to be “missional” as well as “mission minded.”
